IEEE Awards Young Professional Forum Travel Grant - 2025

Introducing the IEEE Distinguished Young Professional Innovator and Laureate Forum, an inspiring new event taking place before the prestigious IEEE Honors Ceremony in 2025.

This forum is dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the remarkable achievements of young professionals, early-career technologists, innovators, and researchers from around the world. By attending, you can gain invaluable recognition for your work while forging meaningful connections with esteemed IEEE Medal of Honor Laureates and Medal Recipients. These distinguished leaders are eager to mentor and guide you on your professional journey, helping you unlock your full potential and shape a brighter future in technology and innovation.

In 2025, up to 50 young professionals will have an opportunity to participate in the first-year pre-launch event, and receive a travel grant to join high-level technical professionals on 23-24 April 2025 in Tokyo, Japan.

Application Process and Requirements

Individuals must:

  • Must be an IEEE member.
  • Be an IEEE Young Professional Award Recipient from any IEEE Organizational Unit (MGA, TAB, EAB, Standards, IEEE USA, and PSPB), or
  • Be an IEEE Young Professional Award Recipient from any IEEE Society, IEEE Region, or IEEE Section, or
  • Be appointed as a member of the IEEE Young Professional Executive Committee, or
  • Be appointed as an IEEE Young Professional Chair in a Region/Section, AND
  • Have graduated from their first professional degree in an IEEE designated field within the last 15 years. who received their highest academic degree no more than fifteen years prior to the year of original nomination, and not more than age forty-five at the time of the nomination.
  • Nominations and all supporting documentation must be submitted no later than 17 January 2025 at 9:00 AM ET.

Self-nominations are accepted. 

Note: 2025 and 2026, Non-IEEE members are not eligible to participate. 

Nomination submissions require:

  • One endorsement letter from an individual other than the nominator who can attest to your IEEE Young Professional role and/or award. The endorsement letter must be submitted with the nomination.
  • Image or letter indicating the applicant’s appointment/award.
  • The nominee’s curriculum vitae (CV) must be submitted with the nomination.
  • The nomination, one endorsement letter, and nominee’s CV must be submitted in English.
  • Special travel grants for Young Professionals from underrepresented regions or financially disadvantaged communities.

*All documents must be submitted in English

Note: A recipient of this recognition can only receive one travel grant. 

Applicants are also required to:

  • Provide a 200-word narrative proposal describing the applicant’s reason for applying.
  • Be responsible for travel expenses above the $1.5k provided by IEEE Awards
  • Submit expense report within one month after event
  • Within 7 days of attending the event, provide a summary (100 words maximum) about their experience at the IEEE Summit & Honors Ceremony and how being selected benefited and enhance their career and IEEE experience. This information will be published on the IEEE Awards website.
  • Become an IEEE Young Professional Champion and promote the IEEE Laureate Program within your network (school, work, sections, regions, social, and at events)

Judging Panel:

In the 2025, the selection committee will be comprised of 3-5 members from the IEEE Awards Board.

Deadline to submit applications is 17 January. Selection of recipients will be made at the end of January, and the approved recipients will be notified shortly thereafter. 

Basis for judging:

  • Impact: has made an exceptional contribution(s) in an IEEE designated field to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity. Or have solved a grand challenge facing society.
  • Excellence in Field: Commitment to innovation and research.
  • Led and inspired others: role model to peers or future generations.
  • Potential for future: active contributor to mentoring and volunteering within community.

Prize:

The nominee selected will receive a travel grant in the amount of $1,500 to attend the forum and IEEE VIC Summit and Honors Ceremony on 23-24 April 2025 at the Hilton Tokyo Odaiba Hotel in Japan. Please note other expenses must be covered on own. 

Up to 50 lucky young profesionals will have get the chance to attend IEEE’s Premiere Event – The IEEE VIC Summit and Honors Ceremony as part of their participation in the YP Forum. 

IEEE VIC Summit bring innovators, entrepreneurs, and career professionals to explore some of the world’s hottest technologies and the future outlook. The IEEE Honors Ceremony Gala recognizes Technology Giants from around the world with IEEE Medals and Recognitions. They are the highest awards given by IEEE, recognizing exceptional contributions to engineering and technology that benefit our society.
