David Krum

Speaker Session Topic: “Creating a Human Centered Metaverse”

Dr. David Krum is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at the California State University, Los Angeles will address some technologies and motivations for building the Metaverse, potential problems that might be encountered, and some considerations for building a human centered Metaverse that respects human dignity. The Metaverse concept describes a shared, multiuser platform (software, hardware, and services) for supporting immersive experiences in virtual and augmented reality.

 His research and teaching activities include human-computer interaction, virtual/augmented reality, and 3D interaction. At Cal State LA, he leads the Experience Lab and co-directs INART, the Institute for Interactive Arts, Research, and Technology.  

From 2008-2020, he was a lead researcher in the Mixed Reality Lab at the USC Institute for Creative Technologies. He contributed to the development of low-cost virtual reality displays and researched new techniques and technologies for presenting immersive experiences.  

Dr. Krum earned a BS in Engineering and Applied Science from Caltech, an MS in Computer Science from University of Alabama in Huntsville, and a PhD in Computer Science at Georgia Tech.
