2025
IEEE DONALD O. PEDERSON AWARD IN SOLID-STATE CIRCUITS

Sponsored by the IEEE Solid-State Circuits Society

“For pioneering contributions to RF CMOS circuits and integrated power converters.”

Michiel Steyaert and his team are renowned for their contributions to CMOS receiver architectures and circuits, paving the way for many of today’s modern communication devices, including smartphones and Wi-Fi technology. In the early 1990s, he was among the first to demonstrate the viability of RF-CMOS circuits. More recently he contributed to new techniques towards fully integrated CMOS capacitive DC-DC converters. His innovative work led to several key inventions, including the low-IF receiver architecture and multi-core power converters. Steyaert’s combination of architectural and RF-CMOS circuit research was instrumental in enabling the creation of single-chip RF communication circuits. This technology is now found in mobile products, underlining the far-reaching impact of his work on modern wireless communications.

An IEEE Fellow, Steyaert is Full Professor, Faculty of Engineering Science, KU Leuven, Belgium.
