2025
IEEE TRANSPORTATION TECHNOLOGIES AWARD

Sponsored by the IEEE Industry Applications, Industrial Electronics, Intelligent Transportation Systems, Microwave Theory and Techniques, Power Electronics, Power & Energy, and Vehicular Technology Societies

“For contributions to intelligent control and management of complex transportation systems.”

Fei-Yue Wang is widely recognized as the creator of parallel transportation systems and related concepts of parallel intelligence, which have been widely used in transportation research and development. His innovative approach paved the way for the effective use of AI and organizational technologies in smart cities and mobility. The concept of duplicating the real world with virtual shadow systems or digital twins for decision making in real-time through real-virtual closed-loop feedback is what he refers to as parallel intelligence. Wang was the first to develop this concept and made it work for large traffic networks in China. His theory and application of parallel testing for autonomous driving has been adopted by many startups and auto manufacturers worldwide.

An IEEE Fellow, Wang is Professor, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, China.
