Dave Bankowski is the recipient of the 2021 IEEE Eric Herz Outstanding Staff Member Award. During his 32 years of service, he has provided leadership and support of critical IT infrastructure and operational services for IEEE. David led efforts to build the IEEE Data Center in 2001 and has spent the last two decades focusing on providing the infrastructure necessary to ensure IT services were reliable and highly available to members and customers. He worked closely with the business to understand and deliver on their IT operational needs while concentrating on managing IT costs. David’s efforts to establish and maintain IEEE’s disaster recovery program led to the reduction of service disruptions to IEEE’s critical customer facing services.
The work David did with his team to organize IT’s preparedness helped IEEE get through the recent COVID-19 pandemic and the impact of Superstorm Sandy in 2012. David’s leadership has also provided guidance for the initial expansion of on-premise services into the Cloud.
During the virtual IEEE Board Series, Dave Bankowski will be presented with the 2021 IEEE Eric Herz Outstanding Staff Member Award during the November IEEE Board of Directors (BoD) Meeting. The pre-recorded presentation will take place at the beginning of the BoD Meeting on Monday, 22 November at approximately 9:10 am ET. The award will be presented by IEEE President Kathy Land.
You can still join in the celebration by posting a congratulatory message to Dave on his dedicated Kudoboard, an online tool to gather a group and send appreciation. Dave’s Kudoboard will be open to posts through 2 December.
Now retired, he was senior director, Information Technology Infrastructure and Operations, and he is being recognized “for leading the restructuring of the IEEE Data Center and ensuring its resilience and continuity of services for more than two decades.”
